Looking for a refreshing and vibrant cocktail to enjoy this summer? Look no further than strawberry margaritas! Made with fresh strawberries, lime juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and agave syrup, these delightful drinks with their bright red color and sweet, tangy flavor, are the perfect addition to any summer gathering.
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make this easy recipe:
- Strawberries – fresh or frozen. This cocktail is packed with strawberry flavor!
- Tequila – make sure to use silver tequila (it’s translucent in color, also called blanco tequila) and not reposado tequila (which is golden/yellow and aged for a longer time – its flavor is too bold).
- Lime juice – make sure to use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavor.
- Agave syrup – sweetens the cocktail. You could also use simple syrup (equal amounts of granulated sugar and water, boiled until sugar is dissolved then cooled), but agave syrup adds an additional delicious flavor.
- Cointreau – or other orange liqueur. Cointreau is on the pricier side but it’s really worth it.
- Ice cubes – to chill your drink. If you don’t want to chill your drink with ice cubes, use frozen strawberries!
How to make it step-by-step
STEP 1: Clean strawberries, remove the tops, and add to a blender container.
(1/2 lb (225g) strawberries)
STEP 2-5: Measure out all the remaining ingredients (tequila, lime juice, agave syrup, and Cointreau) and add to the blender.
(1/3 cup (80ml) silver tequila, 3 tablespoons (45ml) lime juice, 2 tablespoons (30ml) agave syrup, 2 tablespoons (30ml) Cointreau)
STEP 6: Blend until smooth. Adjust the flavor to your liking (the sweetness of strawberries and the sourness of limes can vary) by adding more lime juice or agave syrup as needed.
Now that you have your strawberry margarita mixture, it’s time to chill it. You can do this by:
Serving on the rocks (photo 7): Add some ice cubes to your glasses of choice (margarita glass, coupe glass, or short glass) and pour in the strawberry margarita.
Shaking (photo 8): Add a handful of ice cubes to a shaker and pour in your margarita mixture. Close the shaker and shake for 20-30 seconds until thoroughly chilled. Strain into your glasses.
Making a slushy version / frozen strawberry margarita (photo 9): Use frozen strawberries instead of fresh ones. This will create a thicker but still drinkable drink that is perfectly cold and not diluted with ice.
Enjoy right away!
Margarita salt rim
I’m not a fan of the margarita salt rim with this recipe, but if you’d like to try it, dip the rim of the glass in lime juice and then in salt. You could also dip it in Tajín spice mix. Another option is to make the salt rim on just a part of the glass, not the whole rim.
