This is absolutely the best homemade ranch dressing recipe. Perfectly spiced, creamy, and tangy. It keeps well in the fridge and has so many uses – spoon it on salads, use it as a wrap sauce, or as a dipping sauce. It’s so good!
Ingredients
Here’s what you need to make ranch dressing:
- equal parts of sour cream, buttermilk, and mayo provide the best flavor and consistency of the dressing
- please use real, good-quality mayonaisse for this recipe (I used Hellmann’s)
- you can use leftover buttermilk to make buttermilk pancakes
- if you don’t have buttermilk on hand you can use regular milk and add more lemon juice to the dressing
- if you’d like less calories in your dressing, you can add less mayo
- dried herbs: parsley, chives, and dill – you can also use fresh herbs if you have all of these on hand, I prefer to use dried herbs and not buy 3 bunches herbs every time I want to make ranch, the dressing also keeps better when made with dried herbs
- garlic and onion powder – add great flavor, I don’t like to use fresh garlic, it doesn’t taste so good the next day
- lemon juice – adds citrusy and tangy flavor
- salt and pepper
What you could also add
- paprika powder
- grated Parmesan
- diced Jalapenos or hot sauce for some heat
- chipotle chili powder
- finely chopped cilantro and lime juice instead of lemon juice
- smashed avocado
- Greek yogurt to reduce the calories
How to make ranch dressing step by step
It couldn’t be simpler:
- Add all the ingredients into a medium bowl and whisk until combined.
- Season to taste with lemon juice, salt, and pepper.
- Enjoy!
How to thin ranch dressing: you can add more buttermilk or less sour cream and mayo.
Ranch dressing uses
- Spoon it over a green salad.
- Make this chicken bacon ranch wrap.
- Use as a dipping sauce for veggies, roasted potato wedges, or soft pretzel bites.
- Tastes great as a topping for pizza.
- I love it on pretzel sandwiches – spread some dressing on soft pretzels cut in half, top with ham, cheese, and sliced cucumbers.
- Tastes great with hard-boiled eggs or roast chicken.
- It’s great in this turkey wrap or bbq chicken wrap.
Storage
You can keep the dressing in a closed jar in the fridge for up to 5-7 days. It keeps really well and tastes great.
